Bitterroot Search Dogs provides highly trained and certified K9s in support of law enforcement and search and rescue operations nationwide, free of charge
Founded in 2025, Bitterroot Search Dogs is a 501(c)(3) created to serve local, state, and federal agencies in the search for the missing. We pride ourselves in being more than just a K9 team. We specialize in lost person behavior, search planning, incident command, specialized mapping, and strategic deployment of K9’s and handlers.

Highly trained k9 teams
We deploy at the request of law enforcement or SAR
We provide Certified K9 teams that specialize in human remains detection, wilderness cadaver, wilderness live find, tracking, and article search. All K9s must possess a nationally recognized certification prior to deployment. In addition to a national certification, our K9 teams must meet an extensive list of qualifications before we consider them field ready. Handler and K9 fitness are paramount and we only deploy teams capable of meeting the demand of the mission.

Interested in becoming a K9 handler, flanker, or support personnel?
Joining our team is a full time volunteer position and not for the faint of heart. Very few handlers and even fewer K9s meet our standards. Joining our team means being on call 24/7/365.
We serve
While our headquarters are in Southwest Montana, we have members in different states and counties. We are available to deploy nationwide. Our teams are always on call and can respond with short notice.
